Student Career Days (SCD) is held in conjunction with TCI EXPO and is a free event for students enrolled in arboriculture, forestry and related programs in two- and four-year collegiate and vocational training programs. All Student Career Days events, the trade show, and all educational seminars are FREE to pre-registered students and their instructors/advisors.
SCD Partners receive many rewards for welcoming collegiate and vocational students to the annual Student Career Days event at TCI EXPO. The ideal recruitment platform, the Skills Competition provides SCD Partners the opportunity to work with every student to assess each student’s competency. The Job Fair gives the SCD Partner the opportunity to interview and hire the right candidate from the student pool.
In November 2010, students from around the country descended on Pittsburgh for the 14th annual Student Career Days. Representing 18 colleges and universities from across the country, 147 students took full advantage of the opportunity to test their knowledge and participate in a variety of skills competitions.
Mark Chisholm, certified arborist, three time International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) tree climbing champion, was on site to demonstrate climbing competition tips.“It’s great to see the students’ enthusiasm and passion for the tree care industry,” said Chisholm. “With this type of leadership and commitment from the student competitors, the industry has a bright future.”
Students also took part in the popular Student Career Days Job & Internship Fair, which welcomed some of the biggest names in tree care and gave students and tree care companies the opportunity to meet and discuss potential job opportunities. “We had a great experience, and the students made many great connections, several internship offers, and one job offer,” says Max Darrington, the student advisor from Brigham Young University.
