TCI CSI - Case Solving Investigations
Diagnostic Guide - Don't let the TCI CSI Tree Diagnostic Competition intimidate you. Everyone is a Tree Detective. Any time you even notice at a tree - it's size, it's leaf color, the insect frass pouring off of it onto your walkway - you are flexing your tree diagnostics skills.
Read this guide for tips on how to diagnose some common problems with trees. This information will help you work your way through the evidence found in the Tree Care Industry Case Scene Investigations.

Evidence Files - The Tree Care Industry Case Scene Investigations is a tree diagnostic competition. Any student registered for the Student Career Days events at TCI EXPO is eligible to enter. The competition is a written diagnostic exam based on about 25 "tree case scenarios" or mysteries involving trees. Students (or Tree Case Investigators, TCI's) read the case files, examine all the evidence, and select the best answer from the multiple choice responses. Student TCI's have an hour and a half to complete all 25 cases, but can "get a clue" if they get stuck on a scenario. Each clue will cost them 2:00 minutes in time.
The winner of the TCI CSI Tree Diagnostic Competition will receive a generous gift certificate from STIHL, USA.
The following collection of data is evidence that relates to the TCI CSI competition. Like all clues and evidence found at crime scenes, some of this will be relevant to the diagnostic competition, and some of it will be just a dead end. Late exhibits of evidence may be allowed into the case, so check these online files just before the TCI CSI investigation begins. There might be something that submitted that will completely change the case.
Please Note: Student Career Days and TCI EXPO 2010 are FREE for pre-registered students and their advisors. Students do not require accompaniment by a faculty member or advisor, but faculty or advisor approval is required. Housing and travel expenses are the responsibility of each attendee. TCIA has limited funding available to assist students with their travel.
